sorta faffin' with some character design. find it difficult to stylise things to an extent that i like whilst still getting a believable sort of construction to the body, muscles, curves, that sort of thing. sometimes feels like everything i do is hyper-real or hyper-stylised.

trying to loooooooooooooooosen up. last three omnipathy issues I didn't really care about character design that much (except for maybe the one with the aliens) so I actually want these guys to be good. main goal of issue #4 is to fucking RELAX though. everything i draw is laboured over and doctored and fiddled with (especially if I use a computer). secondary goal is just to use a computer as little as possible. I was at the Birmingham MCM expo this weekend and I saw a lot of awesome things people can do without being a wuss and burying themselves in photoshop.

DONT WORRY THOUGH the  covers will still be big pretty digital paintings paintings. people seem to like them and I do too.

Wendell, the assassin/witch character I'm trying to build as a backup for my current Pathfinder character. I posted an attempt at a design for him the other day but I didn't like it, so I took it down. Did you miss it!? well too bad. My aims for this character are : to design a "tribal" shaman-ish character that doesn't look generic and to try to draw some more interesting headshapes than I usually do. I like the above drawing. I'm a bad artist so when i design characters i just draw like 50 heads and 49 of them look terrible, the 50th looks okay and then I spend the following week trying to recreate the magical thing that I like about it without it looking forced like a retard drew it.

Oh! And I am back doing weekly drawings for Dungeons & Drawings, the blog run by by partner, to celebrate its two-year anniversary. We're drawing gods from the D&D pantheons. Come by! I drew Boccob!

Midas Black, aristocrat and bully. That wind-waker-ganondorf profile is something I'm fond of to the point of overuse (the thing where the brow sort of joins the nose). Also his hair here looks like virgil from DMC. It's not white, so hopefully the similarity isn't too glaring.

i dont know if it's interesting or anything to see the process here but it's nice for me and it allows me to make three separate posts in one day.

Almost done. i've been doing this in lieu of all the stuff I've actually set myself to do for the last couple of days ahahahahaha.

This is actually me spazzing about to design a race of monsters for the comic I'm writing at the moment. I have a thing with alien creatures where they really annoy me if they're too obviously humanoid (although there is the school of thought that the human "format" might do pretty well on other planets, too). I faffed about some with a more outlandish design where the fingers were tentacles and they had five limbs but I guess there's a specific role they have to fill in the story and it's better filled by a race of bunny-eared raccoon-tailed whale men than by anything outlandish.

the cliché pose feels like something I do a lot but I'm looking at my stuff and I can't find anything like it so it can't be too boring. pleased with the colours, but colouring is fucking easy.

OH i remembered something too they're kinda inspired by those weird cactus-men at the end of nausicaa. remember them?
