here we are! I don't like these as much as yesterday's, so I think I'll do some more of him tomorrow. The hair on the right was tricky, I didn't get it right. willem dafoe has a weird quality where his face is very broad and masculine but also in parts sort of bony and thin. I think part of what I don't like about them is that I think they're both "promotional" photographs, I might try and grab some stills of antichrist or spiderman or something and get some gurning going on.

finally finding time to climb back aboard the Dungeons & Drawings horse. yee haw! this one is fun to draw. I had to resort to a bit of quick 3d to get the sword in his left hand looking right but i'm pretty fond of everything else, dont thing the shapes are too boring etc.

trying to loooooooooooooooosen up. last three omnipathy issues I didn't really care about character design that much (except for maybe the one with the aliens) so I actually want these guys to be good. main goal of issue #4 is to fucking RELAX though. everything i draw is laboured over and doctored and fiddled with (especially if I use a computer). secondary goal is just to use a computer as little as possible. I was at the Birmingham MCM expo this weekend and I saw a lot of awesome things people can do without being a wuss and burying themselves in photoshop.

DONT WORRY THOUGH the  covers will still be big pretty digital paintings paintings. people seem to like them and I do too.

sorry, i know i keep posting bits of this as opposed to actual drawings but i'm trying to get back into posting at least SOMETHING every day. this one was another good test of my use of IK rigging. also how difficult having characters pick up / put down things can be (a fact I remember from watching the developer commentary of Jak 3). More actual drawings coming soon.

i watched Daria maybe once or twice when i was a kid and I honestly can't remember it grabbing me much outside of the music being the kind I liked. I ended up watching the whole thing online a couple of years ago though and it's a really good show - it's a case of you getting more and more attached to these (genuinely quite well written) characters as time and the series goes on. It's possible to write off Daria as a walking eye-roll punchline (Jake says something stupid - Daria snipes him with a sarcastic retort - Jake thinks she's being serious - cue Daria eye-roll - end scene - repeat). But, again, you stick with the series and you see her deal believably with a lot of genuine problems (including her own straight-up misanthropy) not in an ideal way but in a way that gives hope that she'll be happier in the future. Her visual design is also really nice if you can get over the slightly basic, dollish look of the people (especially the girls) - she's got a really nice, specific shape and colour scheme. Did I mention the music?! Yeah, if you grew up in the 90s it's a treat (although it's been speculated that the music licensing issues is probably what's held the show back from any sort of organised DVD release).

I had an idea for a comic so I started drawing it to procrastinate over other comics I need to be finishing.

I made this ages ago and posted some WIP video for it or something. Kind of a music video thing. I think it was used live, too. this is my section, the whole thing is here but they kinda knocked the sound out of sync a little bit so it's a bit annoying to watch!

had this vaguely sci-fi feel to it, and I had the idea of rendering it so the video file only has black pixels and white pixels, kind of an uno moralez thing. made with fine folks john malcolm moore and joe bichard.
